Fresh from the Fairways: May Edition
Introduction
By Craig Saxelby, Centre Manager
Hello everyone,
We’re kicking off this edition of Fresh from the Fairways by celebrating Aaron Rai’s historic PGA Championship victory – defying 150-1 odds to become the first English player to lift the Wanamaker Trophy in over a century!
Closer to home, the relentless rain from January through March tried its best to dampen our 2026 season, but we are officially back with a bang! Despite a very tight window to recover from a particularly punishing winter, our greenkeeping team has done an exceptional job returning Edwalton Golf Centre to the welcoming, vibrant condition you expect.
With Rory’s back to back Masters win in April, the buzz heading into The 154th Open at Royal Birkdale this July is unlike anything we’ve seen. While we might swap coastal dunes for our parkland fairways and community atmosphere here in Nottinghamshire, the competitive spirit is just as high as we head into the peak summer season. Who is your pick to lift the Claret Jug?
Whether you are sharpening your game on our practice facilities, introducing the family to the game on the par-3, or taking on the main 9-hole course, we are thrilled to welcome you back to a venue that is looking sharper by the day.
Here’s what we’ll be covering in this edition of Fresh from the Fairways:

What you Love
We are absolutely thrilled that you continue to highly rate Edwalton for its fantastic value for money and convenient location. We also loved reading the kind words about our friendly and helpful team, who always try to make your visit a great one!
Our Focus for 2026
We know this historically wet winter made ground conditions incredibly tough across the UK, but with summer on the horizon, we are turning your feedback into an exciting action plan. Based on your top requests, here is what we are focusing on for 2026:
- Course Drainage & Maintenance: We know how frustrating the wet conditions and trolley bans can be. Improving our drainage is a major priority so we can keep the course playable all year round. Our greenkeeping team is also focusing on levelling tee boxes, conditioning the greens, and managing rough.
- The Par-3 9th Hole: We heard you loud and clear! We are actively looking at plans to finish and reopen the 9th hole on the Par-3 course.
- Driving Range Enhancements: You want a better practice experience, and we agree! We are exploring what we can do to further improve the driving range.
- Clubhouse Vibe & Catering: It’s important for you to have a welcoming clubhouse with more food and drink options. We are looking into how we can further improve our catering service to provide a relaxed post-round atmosphere.
With summer well on its way and your insights guiding our action plan, we are incredibly excited to deliver a fantastic season ahead at Edwalton
Golf Course Update

Course Update: Greens on the Mend
It’s no secret that our greens have had a challenging start to the season, and we know they haven’t been quite up to the standard you expect. A combination of unpredictable spring weather and stubborn soil conditions has meant the turf has been slower to wake up this year.
However, we are pleased to report that the tide is turning. Thanks to the tireless efforts of our greenkeeping team – including targeted aeration and specialised feeding programs – we are now seeing noticeable improvements every single day. As the overnight temperatures continue to rise and the summer sun kicks in, the grass is regaining its strength, color, and smoothness.
We appreciate your patience and support while the course transitions. It’s getting better with every sunrise, and we can’t wait to see them back to their absolute best for your summer rounds!
Thank you for your ongoing support. Despite the seasonal challenges, the courses are shaping up beautifully for a fantastic summer of golf!

This is the flagship event of our summer season, bringing together the Edwalton community for a fantastic day of competitive golf, camaraderie, and fun. Whether you are looking to top the leaderboard and lift the trophy, beat your personal best, or just enjoy a great day out on the course with fellow golfers, this is the tournament you won’t want to miss.
We are currently putting the final touches on the event details, including formats, tee times, prizes, and post-round refreshments. Full registration info will be landing in your inbox very soon, but for now—lock in the date, start tuning up your game, and get ready for a memorable day!
And Finally...
The days are getting longer and we’ve reached that glorious stretch of the season where twilight golf is a perfectly valid excuse for being late home.
Our maintenance team has the course in peak condition, but the excitement doesn’t stop at the 18th green. We’re gearing up for a blockbuster summer of sports including Wimbledon, followed immediately by the high-stakes drama of the FIFA World Cup. To top it all off, we’ll be watching the world’s best take on the links at The 154th Open at Royal Birkdale.
Let’s make it a classic. See you on the fairways!
