We’re kicking off this edition of Fresh from the Fairways by celebrating Aaron Rai’s historic PGA Championship victory – defying 150-1 odds to become the first English player to lift the Wanamaker Trophy in over a century!

Closer to home our greenkeeping team has done an exceptional job in preparing Castle Point Golf Course for the peak summer season.

With Rory’s back to back Masters win in April, the buzz heading into The 154th Open at Royal Birkdale this July is unlike anything we’ve seen. Since we get a taste of those same coastal breezes right here on our own fairways, the excitement for the Claret Jug feels even closer to home. Who is your pick to lift it?

You Spoke, We Listened!

Thank you to everyone who completed our Loyaltee Golf® 2026 survey! We are thrilled that you continue to rate Castle Point highly for its outstanding value for money and convenient locality. We are also delighted that you are noticing and loving the recent improvements to our greens and overall course condition.

While there are many positives, you also highlighted clear areas where we can elevate your experience. Here is our focus for the future based on your top requests:

Driving Range: We know how important is to you to have quality range balls, well-stocked rubber tees and a well-presented outfield. We’ve recently invested in an electric ATV to assist with more frequent ball collection, while being kinder to the environment.
Pace of Play: It’s great that the course quality has greatly improved in recent years, but this means it’s now busier than ever! Your playing experience is our top priority, so we’ll be doing what we can to ensure we maintain a steady pace of play.
Course Tweaks: We have noted your requests to level out the tee boxes and add more sand and maintenance to the bunkers.

Golf Course Update

The bridge between winter and spring is a critical time for turf health. While our course maintenance team is working hard on recovery, we are also navigating the complexities and challenges of Castle Point’s aging course infrastructure.

We’ve recently invested £25,000 to upgrade the irrigation system, to ensure it meets the demands of a modern golf course operation. Our approach to watering is precise and data-driven; we prioritise the health of the plant over aesthetic color.

At this time of the year as we transition from spring to summer the greens may look “thirsty” to the eye, but maintaining a leaner hydration profile prevents the damaging turf diseases and soft surfaces caused by overwatering. The result? Faster, smoother and healthier greens for the season ahead.

Finally, a quick update on the 12th hole safety review. In the coming weeks, we will trial a temporary tee location to gather data before committing to a permanent new platform. We are working closely with the club to minimise disruption to competitions, but please be prepared for some temporary changes during this trial.

To top it all off, we’ll be watching the world’s best take on the links at The 154th Open at Royal Birkdale.
